Just look at this.

Tedski has a post up about the ADP’s request for help defeating a recall effort aimed at Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. In Chairman Biven’s email, party activists are urged, nay, begged to go a visit a webpage and show their support for the same Democratic mayor who has so willingly shown his support for the campaigns of uber-conservatives John McCain, Andrew Thomas, and Jim Weiers. I always thought the Mayor’s controversial endorsements were a sign of his “Fairweather” nature - willing to do whatever he could to position himself in the future - party and ideals be damned - but I think I might be wrong. I think he just really needs some friends.
The url and the committee name they selected for this is “Friends FOR Phil” (www.friendsforgordon.org) and that little for makes all the difference and is an hilarious mistake.
Instead of sounding like a group of citizens joined together organically in their mutual support for the mayor, the one little word change from “of” to “for” makes the site smell of desperation. A campaign trying hard to collect friends, not a group of friends. As I am fond of saying, “words mean things” and that for is a lot different than the of - enough that if the friendsofgordon url was taken … it was time to think of a new name altogether.
This isn’t the only problem. The page itself looks dangerously like a page put together by exactly the kind of wactivist this page is inspired by. At first glance you have no idea what the purpose of the page is, it is unclear if the extreme vigilante (at a glance) is Gordon or another, and it looks like someone tried hard to make it look like a city of phx the Phoenix Mayor’s page … But not tooooo much. All in all, a huge failure in online terms from top to bottom.
Clumsy or sloppy are the words that come to mind.
I’m real curious what your take and especially Bondelli’s is.
Editor’s Note: I finally had some down time and fixed some typos that the iPhone led to and added a sentence or too.

That Isn’t Me in the AARP Ad
Filed Under Wactivists Revealed | 3 Comments
I got a message today on facebook from an old friend, it said the following:
Please tell me you are getting royalties on that AARP commercial. They play it so often in this media market that I bet most octogenarians Pittsburghers think that you’re their grandson. Hope you are well.
Curious right? So I responded with something of the equivalent of “WTF?!” and the answer was a youtube video and six seconds in …
I swear, that isn’t me. I kinda don’t believe myself - but it isn’t. Here are the reasons why:
- Look at all those plants!
- I don’t remember being taped for a commercial (to be fair this doesn’t mean i wasn’t).
- That dude has way stronger looking arms than me.
- That dude has hair on his arms.
Here is the full video ….

I just saw one of the new suicide hotline posters that Mitchell forced the VA to put out after he fought them on their lack of regard for vets and suicide.
The congressman’s fight for better reporting, better services, and better outreach to vets and their families is one of his accomplishments that makes me most proud he is my rep in DC.
I took a pic of it a my fancy new iPhone and an posting this from a bus to the airport … Yes, that is bragging.

Goddard 43%, Gordon 21%

Survey: AZ business owners lean toward Dem gov. candidates

The survey, a part of the Arizona Economic Indicators Monitor by Silver State Bank/ASBA/O'Neil Associates, shows Attorney General Terry Goddard listed as the top choice for 43 percent of the respondents. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon was named as the first choice by 21 percent of the business owners.
Neither Goddard nor Gordon have announced a decision to run for the state's top post in 2010, but both are widely considered to be the only Democrats eyeing a run for governor. Both elected officials would be subject to the state's resign-to-run law, which requires elected officials to resign their seat if they declare as a candidacy for another elected position before the final year of their term.
The top Republican among the business owners surveyed is Mary Peters, who currently serves as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. She garnered 10 percent of the first-choice responses.
Other potential Republican candidates included in the survey were:
- Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman (8 percent)
- Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne (8 percent)
- State Treasurer Dean Martin (7 percent)
- Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas (5 percent)
Survey respondents were asked to provide their top two choices among the candidates if the election was held today. When the second choices were added in, Terry Goddard (64 percent) and Phil Gordon (40 percent) still dominated the field, followed by Mary Peters at 29 percent.

Conservatives Going For the Jugular
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
A new GOP front of a blog has popped up promising to write about the CD-5 primary and "make sure the candidates don't betray the conservative values that America needs to fight the liberal war on real American culture." Its a real hoot, and demonstrates the type of nut-job tactics the far right is willing to use to unseat Harry Mitchell.
The bloggers took the time to endorse Susan Bitter Smith's "gutter politics," saying that her tactics are "EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO BEAT MITCHELL AND THE LIBERALS WHO ARE DESTROYING AMERICA." Yes, it was all in caps.

Napolitano V.P?
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
An Appointment To Keep
Politicos in Illinois and Arizona have lots of reasons to root for Barack Obama and John McCain, respectively. One of the least frequently discussed is their entirely self-interested desire for a little career advancement. They wanna be senators, preferably without being forced to endure that pesky business of running campaigns or winning elections.
The Arizona scenario presents even more interesting dynamics, if only because the state’s governor, Janet Napolitano, is a Democrat whose name is being floated these days as a potential Obama running mate or attorney general.
A state law requires her to replace McCain with another Republican, but unlike other states that force governors to choose from a list drawn up by the party of the departing senator, she does have some discretion. With that in mind, will she choose a “weak” Republican who would face a strong Democratic challenge in 2010? Someone like, say, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth? Or will she select a party maverick, in the spirit of McCain, who would force the GOP into a bitter and expensive primary battle two years from now? (Rep. Jeff Flake’s name comes to mind.) Or will she choose a moderate like former Rep. Jim Kolbe?
There’s also a chance that McCain will resign his Senate seat before November to burnish his image as a Washington outsider. It didn’t help Bob Dole much in 1996, but there is a strong “resign to run” tradition in Arizona that could influence McCain’s strategy.
If he were to do so, a special election would be held, bypassing Napolitano. The early Democratic front-runner for that race is Terry Goddard, the son of former Gov. Sam Goddard (D) and a former Phoenix mayor who’s now in his second term as attorney general.
And what about a Governor Brewer?

Mr. Super Ego Endorses Obama
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Well, my sources were correct and Ed Espinoza endorsed Senator Obama today. I think this is a good sign that the rest of what I was told is most likely accurate as well. Looks like his 15 minutes of fame now come to an end and the publicity blitz didn't work.
One interesting note before I put this to bed. In his self-written self-congratulatory press release, Ed mentioned that he is a "frequent guest on CNN."
Interestingly the CNN piece announcing his endorsement didn't mention his relation to the news agency.
