While feverously trying to figure out something last minute to do for Valentine’s day yesterday, I was getting reports from viewers of the campaign announcement of “GOP Frontrunner” Len Munsil.

Of the bunch of gubernatorial candidates making the rounds right now, the most likely to be called a WACTIVIST is Len Munsil … just a super right wing one.

I have since seen some footage and I can tell you that compared to the other GOP candidates who I have seen, Munsil is a pretty good speaker. (If you want to read the text of his speech, you can do so on his webpage – just google search his name, I’m not too into linking to it.)

Despite a decently well written speech Munsil is not going to be able to hide from his super-conservative out of the mainstream past.

See the problem he has is the same problem nearly all of the elected Republicans in this state have … they don’t get that most Arizonans aren’t like him – in fact they are super confident that they are ALL like them.

They genuinely think our electorate in this state is a huge bundle of conservative Republicans who hate gays, want government so small that it can fit in your bedrooms and pharmacy, condemns you for not being as devout as they are, and thinks that the only bad thing about Cheney’s hunting accident is that it wasn’t allowed to happen in an Arizona bar. I mean, this may be the way the majority of the AZ GOP is … but not the majority of the state by any means. I wonder if Munsil will get that and start to moderate a little, but I seriously doubt it. Nevertheless, I expect this race to get more interesting in the next several months.

At the risk of turning this post into a full blown ramble … while listening to the Munsil speech I remembered an old fearitself post I did that generated an email response by the man himself.
